Intentional Community at Waterfall Creek
This idea consists of a cluster of homes/families/couples and individuals who share similar thoughts, ethics and principles, living on a shared property in a mutually supportive environment with the freedom to live as individuals. . Sustainable living is a key principle of an Intentional Community. This community could have, but not be limited by, a mutual interest in horses.
Qualities, Personal Principles and Ethos
The thoughts/ethics and principles will be sympathetic with sustainable, organic, ecologically and environmentally friendly living. Spiritual freedom is a given and respect for each other's ethos will be mutual. Personal and community evolvement and development will be fostered and encouraged.
The health, happiness and viability of the intentional community go hand in hand with the health, happiness and viability of the individual members and the wider community.
The envisaged Intentional Community would be seen as a new beginning for members rather than an escape.
Paraphrased, the community would function thus: Each community member lives with a high level of the qualities, personal principles and ethos mentioned above. This imparts upon the community as a whole a sense of oneness and wellbeing. What is satisfying and fulfilling for an individual is also of benefit to the whole community and what is satisfying and fulfilling for the community will benefit individuals. Community members would be encouraged to interact with the wider community.
How can this happen?
By joint or shared ownership of a suitable piece of land that can sustain a given number of humans/households. Each co owner has exclusive rights over a portion of the property (for dwelling/garden/orchard), with the rest of the land being co-operatively managed/farmed by the community. See http://www.ic.org/ website of Fellowship for Intentional Community for resources and an in-depth look at Intentional Communities.
Where could this happen?
The initial proposed land is in Tallangatta Valley on a property called ‘Waterfall Creek’. This 60ha property is well serviced by road, has a good rainfall and water and has been farmed using organic farming principles since 1995. The land at present could support up to five households. More land adjoining may be available for increasing the community if the need or desire exists.
